CHAPTER 1

A steamy side street at the back end of a Paris night club, two men wait in a Merc. The windows tinted for extra privacy. The conversation jumps from one topic to another. They are getting more and more agitated as they have to wait for their passenger to come out.

“Seems that Daddies boy wants to spend his life in a fucking whore house.”

His colleague corrected him.

“It’s a night club when you look at it from the outside but when you get in. Sweet Mary drips honey from her blessed pussy.”

The other one growled back.

“I’m in no mood for jokes, especially at this time of night. I didn’t sign up for this stint. I came out of the special forces to baby sit a snot nosed imbecile. Ah fuck it. At least the monies good and soon I’m going to be retiring by a tropical ocean getting serviced by some very nice models.”

“The only servicing you will be getting is an oil change. The rest is beyond repair.”

He sniggered again.

“Laugh all you want my lap dog friend. While I’ll be kicking my feet up. You’ll be stuck here wiping sissy boys’ arse.”

Something caught their eye. A person was approaching them but they couldn’t exactly make out his face due his hood and his head was facing downwards.

“Great. That’s all we need. Another homeless bum begging for money.”

“Maybe this time it will be a gypsy beggar. This city is infested with them. You’ve been to the Metro lately? It’s like beggars central down there. I tell you; this city needs a good cleansing. Top to bottom.”

His colleague sniggered.

“And you are the one that’s going to do that? Good luck wasting your bullets. Or the boss’s bullets in fact. You know how he is about wastage of arms and ammo. Especially if there is a profit loss.”

The beggar stopped by the car and tapped on the window. His face still partially concealed by the hood.

One of the men pressed a button and the glass partially slid down.

“No money here so moves along.”

The hooded figure just stood there without a word. Just heavy breathing could be heard.

“Can you believe this. Of all the days we get this day, topped off by this standing freak. What are you deaf? Fuck off.”

The hooded figure didn’t respond to the request. Instead the heavy breathing got louder and louder. The men just stared at each other in amazement.

“Right that’s it. I’m going to blow this tramp away.”

His colleague restrained him.

“Have you gone nuts? We are in a public place and if we are spotted you know what’s going to us. The Gendarmes will be the least of our worries.”

At that point the heavy breathing stopped and the hooded figure moved along. They watched him as he walked into an alleyway and squatted in the corner and sat still.

“Just leave it. He is an attention seeking tramp. When the boss’s son comes out just keep an eye if that parasite wants to bother us again.”

The back door of the club opened and the boss’s son came stumbling out flanked by two ladies. The guys got quickly out of the car to escort him.

“Boys, boys. No need to cramp my style. Can’t you see I’ve got company.”

“Yes, sir but your father gave us specific instructions to take you to him. He wants to speak with you.”

The boss’s son’s face dropped the enthusiastic look as he realised how much trouble he was in. His father usually saw him when he wanted to scold him with harsh words about his indiscretions. He turned to the ladies.

“Sorry my prickly roses but not today. I’ve got urgent waste of time attention to attend to.”

He slipped them some money and he got into the car. One of the bodyguards kept an eye on the hooded figure but he had hardly moved. He was still squatting. He knew he was watching them and he had a very uneasy feeling about all this and wanted to get out of this backstreet as soon as possible.

“So, boys. What’s papa upset about now?”

The smell of alcohol was strong every time he opened his mouth. The bodyguards were used to that since they had run so many errands wiping this boy’s arse.

“Don’t no sir and wouldn’t want to jump to any conclusion.”

As they drove away, the driver looked in his rear view and saw that the hooded figure had stood up and was watching them as he grew distant from view. He breathed a slight sigh of relief. He had a strange feeling about that person. His thoughts were interrupted by the usual babbling bullshit the boss’s son did to pass the time when he was bored.

“So, boys what’s been happening in the dark and torrid world of arms dealing?”

The men didn’t respond.

“Oh, c’mon guys. You are with my beloved father every dirty deal he has done. And one should not forget that your pay packet and my hedonistic life style is funded by merchants of death.”

He pulled out a little flask of high antique value and took a swig of Cognac that would bankrupt any person of middle class standing.

“Sir you know we are not allowed to discuss such things. Even with you. Our lives wouldn’t be worth a slice of bread if we did.”

He nodded in agreement.

“Very true. My beloved Papa has the uncanny ability of fooling you with one hand and making you disappear with another. A neat trick indeed.”

Again, the silence. But he was not fazed. And still needed to entertain himself.

“Every day I can enjoy the benefits of this hedonistic life thanks to a bit of blood money. It leaves a rather interesting stench. Wouldn’t you agree boys?”

Again, the men didn’t respond. He always wanted a reaction and they were quite fed up by now. He decided to give his mouth a break and started to slowly drift to sleep until there was a sudden thud on top of the roof of the car…..
