CHAPTER 1

My name is Thyroid. Strange name for you I guess but not for me. I like it and where I got this name is a long story that I will reveal to you gradually as I start my quest to rid Paris of parasites and vermin. Also known as politicians, bankers, High end criminals and all those bottom feeders that associate themselves to those that take advantage of what’s left of the good people.

Now you are thinking that I’m a very strange and crazy. Not in the slightest. I’m completely clear of mind and spirit. I know what I want and how to obtain it.

Now you are thinking that I have a vivid imagination? True. I do. But every plan that was executed had to start with an idea, and this stems from one’s imagination.

I’m going to be completely honest with you. My complete name is THYROID THE COCKROACH KING. Of course, that wasn’t my name at birth but I never knew who my parents were. All I ever knew was the world around me and that was always just enough.

Now you are thinking that I’m a cockroach. Right? Well in actual fact I admire cockroaches as creatures of survival.

You can find cockroaches in any part of the world. Hot or cold. They don’t care where they live as long as they can live. Pretty mammals and birds are fussy about where to nest and temperature but Cockroaches and insects in general don’t give a damn about all this. They make the best out of a shitty situation.

Clichey-sous-bois is an area of Paris where no tourist or even the most hardened Frenchman would dare set foot in. That is where I have lived most of my life. But this does not mean I stick around this area. Early mornings I set off to the centre of Paris where my curious nature always takes me.

Historical sites swallowed by the modern world. The bustling streets where all stop and stare at me in amusement. That’s okay. I have learned to ignore prying eyes and just take it in my stride. Even the poor just see me as something to be avoided at all costs. I gave up a long time ago trying to explain to people my condition.

Since doctors have no idea what my condition was, they decided to stop wasting money on research and tests and let me join society. I heard them use the word Thyroid and this name stuck in my mind. One day I decided to attach it to the name Cockroach and since I would never be king of anything, I found the irony so amusing I created the complete name. My alter ego to get me through difficult days. Naturally no one in their right minds would employ me. Not that they would be able to, thanks to the present economic situation.

The Government provided me with free housing but in a place where it would not be too distressing for affluent Parisians and Tourists to catch sight of me. In other words, far away from where they live. I would be for the low-income earners and the newly arrived immigrants to enjoy.
